Shandong connects 1,000 MW offshore solar project to the grid

The 1,000 MW offshore photovoltaic project in Kenli district of Dongying, Shandong province, achieved full-capacity grid connection on Friday, marking a breakthrough in China's development of clean energy.

Each of the project's massive platforms measures 60 meters long and 35 meters wide, equivalent to the area of five standard basketball courts. Nearly 3,000 such platforms have been installed across the site, forming a vast array on the sea's surface.

Upon reaching full operation, the project is expected to generate approximately 1.78 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This output is sufficient to meet about 60 percent of the district's electricity demand.
